As you said that this pertains to your decision

as to which you would buy, I wanted to offer my two cents. As you phrased it in regards to cost, keep in mind that battery replacement is cheaper than a good cleaning of an automatic watch. The auto is more expensive as it's got a lot more going on (all meachanical vs. the battery operated quartz.) If you spend time in the water, you'll have to get the seals checked every year or so anyhow. In any case, I understood the phrasing of your post to suggest the quartz was cheaper accounting for battery replacement cost, when in fact it the cheaper of the two to maintain. It is more accurate and consistent, and to some that is the most important factor to consider. Good luck with your purchase!
