Best to take it to a jeweler to do this. That watch might be especially valuable and the last thing you would want to do is screw it up by either damaging the case or allowing dust into the movement by doing a hack home job of opening and handling it.

In that case, it is priceless. But it sounds pretty valuable even beyond being a great family heirloom. I'd treat it as if it was worth a decent amount.
