Spring Bar Opinions?

This may be basic and silly, but I am researching experiences with different kinds of spring bars for strength, durability, etc. These are probably the weakest link in a bracelet/strap.

For a lay person, I have probably swapped as many straps and bracelets as anyone, and generally like the ones with a flange as opposed to the straight shoulders, because they are easier to grab and seem to be OEM for a lot of nice watches.

All else being equal, what is preferred by those of you in the know? Double flange or double shoulder? The double flange bars may be a little easier to remove, but do they seat as deeply as the traditional double shoulder bars? I suppose
the thickness of the bar is more a matter of whether it will fit properly through a bracelet, and the heaviest (1.8mm?) is the strongest.

Finally, the aftermarket bars I have seen listed are measured in fractions of inches, as opposed to millimeters like modern references for many lug/strap widths. So, for instance, which would be best for 20mm lugs, a 3/4" bar or a 13/16" bar? Will the 1.8mm bars work? Double flange or double shoulder?

Looking for experiences and sound advice here. Would like to save my original SMP pins when swapping bracelet for strap, but don't want my watch to wind up in the bottom of the lake!

Thanks for the help!
