In Response To: Spring Bar Opinions? ()

The double flange spring bars do not seat as deeply as the double shoulder if the lug hole is small, which it usually it. But they are easier to take out. The Rolex 2.0mm spring bar is probably the thickest, it is single shoulder both ends. And don't forget the telescoping one ended spring bar - I don't know why that is around.

The vast majority of spring bars are made of nickel plated brass. The highest quality bars are made of 100% stainless steel and are about double the price of the regular one's. It is hard to find these, except at the larger watch supply houses.

I prefer using very thin stainless steel 1.3mm double flange spring bars, I have never had one fail or even bend.

For 20mm lugs, a 3/4 inch bar will work, but the best fit is 13/16 inch. For 18mm, a 3/4 inch or 11/16 inch work best.

Ideally, for SMP you will want double shoulder (if you can grip the bar) 100% stainless steel at 13/16" of an inch. The thickness will depend on the lug holes, but either 1.3mm or 1.5mm will almost assuredly work.
