I spent some time a few weeks ago with racing legend Vic Elford. Vic worked with McQueen on the movie LeMans. He spotted my Heuer Monaco and we began talking watches. He's not a watch nut like us at all, but he casually mentioned that he still had the Rolex Daytona presented to him as winner of the 1968 24 Hours of Daytona in his Porsche 907 Longtail. He went on to say that it stopped working many years ago. He finally contacted Rolex and they refurbished the watch for him for free. A year or 2 later it stopped again and it's been sitting ever since. He said he heard that it might be quite valuable, maybe as much as 5000-USD .... I advised him to NOT sell the watch without contacting me so I could put him in touch with an expert since the watch may be worth many, many times more than that to the right collector!!
