Most old racers are very good guys, from what I've seen. Partially, they attended enough funerals that they learned a bit of perspective that other athletes may lack.
And although I may be wrong, while there's much money for the Fernando Alonzos and Jeff Gordons and Marco Andrettis of this world, I would bet that the modern day Vic Elford isn't exactly getting rich.
Hence the joke: How do you make a small fortune as a race car driver?
Start with a large one.
