Well, the day/date diver...
I think this must be proof that this did exist. I know there was another you told me about that was on German ebay, if this ISN'T the same watch, then surely it must be a bone-fide model. I know you have the pics of the German day/dater, is it the same watch??
If not, then as I said, it probably be a model that Heuer launched just before TAG got involved, maybe why you don't see many??

Lovely back story, I'm sure it's the 38mm model - looking at the proportions. I'm not sure about the plated case, the pictures in the catalogue look like a standard stainless case...
