Stewart,
Do not know much about watches but being in the Army I know a thing or two about tracking high dollar item. Here is my best guess. It is a way of marking the watches by giving them a unit serial number and signing it out to the Pilot. So with that guess you have the 82nd watch of 180 watches belonging to an Air Force. Hope this helps.

: Hi all..
: Some time ago I picked up this 510.501 from a dealer in Germany who
: (allegedly) got the watch from a military watch dealer in Haifa,
: who alleged that the watch belonged to a pilot.
: The markings aren't the usual 'M XXX', but are: 82 AF 180
: Does this mean anything to anyone? I've scoured the net with no
: luck.
: As you can see, it has an all white handset, which is usually
: indicative of Israeli Defense Force watches (ond/or other Heuer
: mil watches). I have posted over on the MWR (mil watch resource)
: to see if they can shed any light on what the caseback markings
: mean.
: I thought I'd ask over here to see if anyone had any clue.
