Re: Monzas
In Response To: Re: Monzas ()

: Rich,

: I'm somewhat hesitant to reply given your e-mail address, but I
: guess everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt.

: To be clear- and I guess you already know this, there are two
: distinct Monza models that frankly have nothing to do with each
: other. So I guess the first question is: which watch do you
: actually like?

: The original Monza was a cut-price Carrera, and generally with the
: PVD coating

: The second Monza was released in 1998- first with "Heuer"
: only markings, in both black and white faced models, and then
: later the range expanded to include an automatic watch (no
: Chrono function) and a high-end "Cal. 36" model that
: used a Zenith movement. Maybe if Chevy hadn't butchered the late
: 90's Camaro this watch would have been called Camaro, because
: that's the model that the newer Monza most resembles

: I have one of the re-edition Monza models, and to be honest, its
: one of my favourite watches bar none. I seem to be in the
: minority however! I keep an eye out for a white faced
: "Heuer" model to join my black one. I see them come up
: quite often for sale- even new ones that are old stock.

: STG1500 sounds steep to me- even in this world where the British
: Lira 'aint worth much.

: Good luck!

LOL - er yes excuse my hotmail addy - i was having a "moment" when i created it!

I shall do my best not to live up to it!

Its the re-edition model i'm after as i like how imo it has the look of a dress watch and everyday watch. £1500 was for a new boxed 2yr Gtee example, but £1000-1200 seems to be the price for all version i have found that vary in age between 2yrs old and 10 years old.

Now the help or nudge im after is, if this is the shape i like, is it any better getting a 2yr old one or a 10 year old one, does the watch only having Heuer mean its somehow more collectable than a later one etc. I suspect because as you say we are in the minority in it being our favourite design there may not be a cut and dry case as to which example, age etc is the best, however with such a good looking watch there is no doubt to me that it WILL be a future classic in the future. I suspect its just that in paying it's dues 10 years isn;t a long enough period for it to gain that all important respect...

All views and comment appreciated to help me become at least semi-informed!
