Yes, you are right.

As an example Eric Clapton as a young aspiring musician in the 1960's playing small venues with the Yardbirds, John Mayall and Cream was wonderful and his performances unforgetable. In the 1990's as an older, established and technically more accomplished player his Albert Hall concerts were lacklustre and very forgetable.

But then I was older too and age has a lot of bagage which probably clouds things unlike an open minded teenager.

Anyway, this whole issue has been an interesting diversion.
