In Response Compare and contrast... (John Rochowicz)
: I'm really enjoying this thread, guys. Keep
: debating - I'm learning a lot.
: Based on this thread, though, can I ask two
: questions: 1) Would you both agree that if I
: wanted a manual wind chronograph, the
: Lemania movement in the Moon Watch is the
: best one out there?
1)Yes and as I said before and I will repeat it again and again, there is no better handwound cam operated handwound chrono than the lemania 1873 and its derivatives I will note that there aren't a lot of alternatives out there that are both lever/cam and manual wind. For all I know, one of the upper tier manufacturers might have a lever/cam manual wind model I ought to be considering, but I don't know of any.
: 2) I have read both good and bad things about
: the Valjoux 7750, and I'm not very impressed
: by those in my father's Breitlings (the
: pushers feel "mushy"). Who makes
: the best, most extensively modified 7750
: (I'm guessing it is Omega for use in the
: Bond SMP chrono)?
2)Yes the Omega 1164 or 1154 (please chuck correct me if I made calibre mistake) I've seen it called both (and probably called it the 1154 myself) it's the 1164 currently. Just make sure one doesn't mix it up with the 1152 which is the "lower effort" version of the 7750 used in the Speedmaster Date models or the 1151 which is the Triple-Date (Day-Date in Omega's verbage) models.
is one of the best modified valjoux available on the market. But there are also less known firms taht chuck quoted in his previous post like Ventura and Ikepod who did and do a great job with the valjoux 7750 Agreed.
hope this helps
