first of all I have to apologize not having named my source in my posting: It is in fact the book Alistair refers to: Gerd-R. Lang - Reinhard Meis, Chronographs, Wristwatches, the time to stop, published by Callwey, 1992 (not continued). I myself call it the 'Chrono-Bible'...

Gerd-R. Lang, owner of Chronoswiss, watch-maniac and chrono specialist and Reinhard Meis wrote this compendium on chronographs and focusses on the technical specialities and the chrono-movements, the patents several watch manufacturers launched, but not on the brands in their collectivity.
On the other hand: Gisbert L. Brunner and Marc Sich, authors of (TAG Heuer) Mastering Time, Edition Assouline 1997, which is dedicated to (TAG-)Heuer. Gisbert L. Brunner is one of the best known authors on watches.
Who is right??
To cut a long story short...only the concealed (?) Heuer-archives could tell us the truth. I'm quite sure: any Heuer maniac would give the right arm to get access to this archive....if it exists(?)
