I have also written to Omega in the past to find out when my watch was made. The guys there are very helpful.
I suggest that you check out omega.ch website for information about your watch. They also have a pretty good vintage section. There are many resources on the web for info about Omega watches.
Mark has a good point - I bought my watch second-hand but I was told it was made in 2000. It was actually made in 1998. Fortunately, I wasn't that bothered because the watch is in perfect condition.
