I'm totally agree with you, Stewart.
It's very, very easy tell "good" or "not good" looking at pictures without look at the watch in your hand and asking questions ourself...
For example, lot of people talks about Silverstone Lemania: they seems to have the "thuth book".
All says "inverted sign dials are fake" loking the watch in a picture because they never had it in theyr hands!
I've touched one of these watches and, incredible, the Silverstone signs is the same of the type that someone call "original".
Look at here:
inverted dial, that someone call FAKE
standard dial, that someone call ORIGINAL
If we look at Silverstone logo, we can see it's THE SAME! Look the E, the S, the T... is the same print clichè!!!!!
Yes, the first is more "charged" of paint... but it's THE SAME!
How can someone tell "inverted dial on Silverstone Lemania" is a fake?
Is a fake if you see a 480 pic on your smartphone...
In my opinion is important have the watch in hands, hi resolution pictures and study details of the watch...
My father tought me:
"believe half of what you see, nothing of what you hear"
and it's my law of life.
: Very interesting Bullitt.. I agree that sometimes on an online
: forum it can be easy to be swept up my consensus, without having
: the luxury of handling such a watch.
: If I were to play 'devils advocate', and oppose the view that it
: isn't genuine, then I may ask..
: If 'faked' - Why go to so much trouble to produce such a thing,
: when fitting a genuine Heuer dial is easier.
: Why choose such an obscure army / markings. Why not even bother to
: print a Heuer shield. Why print several dials with different
: lettering on the dial.
: To me, All these questions make me think that it is entirely
: possible that the story that Bullitt recounted could be true.
: They a clearly NOS.. not having been issued, no issue no's., and
: could either be as Bullitt suggested (never paid for) or a test
: sample that never saw the light of day.
: I'd love to get to the bottom of this mystery!
