I disagree with the above statement. MOST (not all!) Rolex owners do not know or care ANYTHING about watches, period. Rolex is NOT marketed to the "watch-cognizant" crowd, it is marketed to the status-minded crowd.

Try this sometime. Hang around a nice jewelry store (Auth.Rolex distrib.) and listen to the LACK of questions asked (or ignorant questions asked) by people before they buy a Rolex.

I have seen MANY Rolex owners (more female than male) who did not know that the Oyster crown needs to be screwed down.

I work with someone who recently bought a new steel Rolex GMT with all black bezel and did NOT know that it was NOT a diving watch!! He was thankful when I showed him what the 24-bezel and hand were for.
