Rolex, Omega, and a sense of style...

: -all the peformance of a rolex for half the money. Rolex is
: good, but certainly not worth double the money. -you are
: not as much of a target with Omega. With Rolex, people will
: always comment, 'look at the rolex', with Omega, people
: instead say, 'look at that nice watch'.

That's exactly the thinking that led me to purchase an Omega.

I still wear and enjoy my Rolex. It is easy to enjoy it and feel I got my money's worth since I bought it before their prices got too astronomical. Paid only $900 from an authorized dealer for a steel DateJust back in the early 1980's. But I am unlikely to buy another Rolex in the future -- unless an interesting vintage model catches my eye.

Omega nicely filled the void left by Rolex. Omega became what Rolex was a few decades ago -- a nice, prestigious, sturdy, reliable, and fashionable luxury watch at a price that is still resonably obtainable and in good relation to the product value and quality. With a name that is sufficiently well recognized without being TOO well known and recognized.

An important element of style is to look good without the reasons being obvious. When people adorn themselves with well recognized, overtly labeled, and obvious choices (Rolex, Louis Vuitton, Channel, Gucci, Tommy Hilfiger, etc.) their sense of style seems more forced or purchased than genuine.
