Hello all!
I have a problem. I bought a new Rolex Submariner about a month ago. I really love this watch, but there is something wrong, and I am having trouble figuring it out. I have read all kinds of posts on all sorts of forums, and I see that there is a lot of brand loyalty out there. I admit I am brand loyal too, but lately I seem to be in limbo as to what to choose. Well, not in total confusion, but we'll see. What's my bottom line? I have had the Submariner for a month, and now I have this ambition to sell it, or trade it for an Omega Seamaster Professional Chronograph. Why? I ask myself: "Why didn't I just buy the Seamaster Chrono in the first place?" Well, I have always wanted a Rolex, and now that I have one, I want something else. You know the saying: "You always want what you can't have." This saying sticks with me quite well. Also, I am not the type of person that can own a lot of watches. Besides, I cannot afford to buy them all! The reason I love the Seamaster Chrono so much is because if its large size, thickness, weight, looks, accuracy, history, etc... These reasons go for Rolex too. As far is accuracy is concerned, they are all great timepieces. I looked at a Sea-Chrono when I was X-mas shopping a few weekends ago. When I picked one up and held it in my hand, I was totally amazed at how heavy and solid it was. When I went to put my Submariner back on, it felt like a toy watch you buy in those red, 25 cent toy machines at the K-mart stores. I am NOT knocking Rolex, but I am simply giving my opinion at the time. The biggest thing that bothers me about the Rolex is how light and flimsy the clasp can be. However, I love the design of the Oyster band & Oyster case. I imagine the Seamaster Chrono would take some time getting used to on a wrist, but after a while, you get used to it. Another concern I have is whether I will be satisfied with the Omega once I have it. Of all the watches I have come across, the Omega is one of the most solid. The heaviest watch I ever held was a Rolex president. I know it sounds like I already have my mind made up, but I find myself going back and forth all the time. This post is for anyone who has experienced the same types of concerns I have, and for those who currently own an Omega Sea-Chrono. How do you like them? There is one more question I have about the Seamaster: On all the ones I have seen, it looks as though the inverted triangle at the top of the bezel doesn't line up with the 12 hour marker. Does anyone else see this? I have noticed this on every Seamaster I have ever looked at. It almost seems like the racheting mechanism should be re-adjusted so it clicks to the proper spot at the 12 marker. The closest to "12" that I have been able to see, is either to the right "a hair", or to the left "a hair." This is my ONLY concern though.
Thanks for your time, Brent Schultz
