I checked on the date of the last Monaco lot and was shown a list sent by TAG which confirmed that this piece was made in 1965 - so I presume that this date must be correct. As to lack of manufacturer support - although TAG gave us access to archives and fact checking - you are right that they did not provide the sort of support that was given for Omegamania - but then this was a completely different event - it was not a world event supported by a huge global media budget, it was the sale of a one owner collection, very low key and, for Patrizzi & Co, a first sorti into the world of Heuer collectors.
I have to say we were incredibly impressed by the enthusiasm and knowledge of Heuer collectors and were very grateful Jeff's help and support. We know our watches probably more than anyone else, but, even though we have learnt a lot doing this auction, we are still learning about Heuer.
I was on the telephones during this auction and the collectors I spoke to all were enthusiastic and were looking for specific pieces either to improve on the example they had in their collection, or to complete their collection. It was good that some pieces fetched excellent prices but, for the Heuer fraternity, I think it is also good that the prices were not astronomical because surely the point of Heuer is that they make great watches with innovative concepts that are for many people both affordable and collectible.
