I think that it depends a little on how you wear/abuse your watches. But that said, I know many guitar players who play and share ("you wanna play it? Sure!") guitars that range from the price of a new BMW to the price of a modest house. To their thinking, it' aint a guitar if it don't get played.

A Miyata can be a daily driver. An Elan probably can't. It'll break down too much, But the hassle/danger of breaking down in a car is much differernt than finding out that your watch stopped.

That's why I play vintage guitars and tube stereo electronics and wear vintage watches and even live in a very old house, but drive a new car with a serious warranty.
